Viking Flagship 1995 Racing Plates
Viking Flagship 1995 Racing Plates, which he wore in 3 different races
The Game Spirit Chase at Newbury when he fell, the Emblem Chase at Kempton finished 2nd and the Queen Mother Champion Chase which he won.
There was only a fortnight between each race.
He also trained in them between the Game Spirit and Champion Chase.
If racing plates/horseshoes are put on, taken off and put back on too often it becomes harder for the farrier to find a place to put the nail so the farrier basically kept Flagship’s feet tidy and made sure the plates were were secure through the second half of February/early March.
Horses never wore out shoes at Jackdaws Castle because they walked on the tracks, grass and gallops.
They still have some nails in from Champion Chase Day and even dried Cotswold Mud
I held Viking Flagship when the farrier took them off him and they were put into my hand
I had them in the shed at the fields for years and they are tarnished now but they will stop that way
… and they will never be sold!
